What is Arcade?

Log Line:

A gamers' boy favorite daily life routine gets ruined by an unwelcome visitor

Synopsis:

Arcade is a gripping 2D animated short film that delves into the heavy theme of anxiety and panic experienced by a college student named Milo. The film follows Milo as he is relentlessly pursued by a manifestation of his anxiety known as Annie. Annie's torment becomes so intense that Milo is unable to sleep, eat, or even use the bathroom. However, Milo eventually finds comfort in the arcade, only to discover that he can't escape his fears so easily. Annie takes over the arcade and turns it into a psychedelic nightmare. Will Milo ever be able to break free from this madness?

Arcade Production

As the creator and director of my own 2D animated project, I ventured into uncharted territory. At Savannah College of Art and Design, the traditional route was to produce capstone films through SCAD's pre-production, production, and post-production classes. Students typically present their film concepts to the class of upcoming seniors, but unfortunately, my pitch for Arcade did not receive approval.

Taking on the challenge of making Arcade an independent film has forced me to break free from my comfort zone. My producer and I both agreed on the importance of establishing a new pipeline that is completely independent from SCAD.

It turned out to be a fortunate turn of events, as Arcade has been experiencing remarkable growth, with an estimated 85 individuals from around the globe. The Arcade provides me with a platform to showcase my artistic abilities and experiment with new ideas, even with limited resources.

During production, we were given the liberty to handpick our project team members, resulting in our operations being entirely online due to the diverse locations of our crew. Despite being remote, we were able to operate online with great efficiency. Our weekly department meetings on Zoom were highly effective in replicating a traditional production process. We displayed our work in progress on Discord for character draw overs to ensure they were on the model, and Google Drive helped us in organizing our files seamlessly.

I am proud to be a part of Arcade, a truly exceptional project. Our team has shown remarkable dedication and skill, allowing us to meet production schedules set by other capstone films. Every member of our team has pushed past their limits, putting in the hard work needed for success. Working alongside such talented artists has been an incredible opportunity, and I have been amazed by the development of the film beyond my wildest expectations. Leading this project with such an amazing group has truly been a delight.
